The best hunting rifle depends on what you are hunting and also your motivation for hunting it.
For example you could use a .22, a 300 Win Mag and a 105mm recoiled rifle to take an elk.
In a survival situation, the .22 might be the best: you can carry a lot of ammunition, the gun is light weight and it will do the job where someone is well trained. But, for a normal sportsman, this would be a very bad weapon because, most rcreational hunters are not well trained and the gun is very much underpowered for taking an elk.
If you want to kill the elk without regard for anything else, even a nearby 105 mm round going off is likely to do the job. It might be best under these circumstances.
