The Online Swing: Marketing Trends 2015

I have been reading up on a A LOT of marketing blogs these days and the topic has been the same, "What marketing trends will rule the year 2015?". If your set in your ways and and are nodding off this post right now because you think you have a "perfect system", I suggest you think again. The only constant is change and we will be seeing lots of it in 2015.

ALL HAIL CONTENT MARKETING!

I have said it repeatedly and I'll say it again, (and not because its catchy) CONTENT IS KING. However, back in the old days, (you know, like 2014) that meant "any kind of content". Black hat SEO techniques, a lot of words or very few words (read: 200 word BLOGS) mean squat now. More and more people understand the concept of SEO and when the content they are reading is simply for the ratings or something of actual value. In 2015 (and I have got way too many experts to back this up! So don't fight it.) You will have to go the distance. Websites will not only have to create "relevant content" but "personalized content". THEY know, when they are reading something that's going to make a difference in their lives or just make their eyes strain. So, shortcuts are out. Content marketing will be more focused because its no longer just information (not that it ever was if you ask me) but a "resume". Good copy is no longer a "plus" its a "necessity". All marketers are good writers and if you're not, well, there's not much option except become one or hire one. 2015 will also mark the rise of "consumer tailored copy". Most marketers are going after "empathy" in content to understand the fluctuating consumer needs and what they want NOW. (Read: supposed perfect systems are out). Personalized content will give a rise to 1-to-1 marketing. For people who are a fan of "short, short, short, content while getting the right keyword score on the board, STOP.
I know lots of people will still shrug this off, so listen to Google, it already considers short posts (like around 200 words) as "thin content" and its being pushed down in the search ratings by its two new patrol officers; Panda 4.0 and pay day 2.0. The sole purpose of these two algorithms is to push your "tiny content" down a very LARGE gutter. 2015 will see a rise in market (almost 67%) for blog holding websites and also a rise in profits from B2B marketing strategies. So content budgets just went up I think. :neo: (Welcome to the future)

MICRO TARGETING AND HYPER SEGMENTATION

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to round 2! Studies in the past years have shown a 1000% more people will respond to a product, if the ad for it is tailored as a targeted display one. Okay, before everybody gets violent about tapping the social media well for data to base marketing strategies on, let me tell you, its more accepted by the ordinary person than you might think. According to another research 47% finds this "invasive" or a "violation of privacy". That is a LOT of people who DON'T mind! So yea, targeted marketing is going UP.

THERE'S NO WAY BUT THE MOBILE WAY

Excessive use of mobiles has lead to more than toilet background selfies. 2015 sees a rising "App culture" and anything that can be done on the go. What is the modern man's two favorite things. (Sadly, tacos are the third) Apps about everything! (Its the best shortcut ever invented) and surfing done on those phones. These little devices are the marketing future, you would be surprised how many people order online or book services, trips, hotels, flights and what not! And where? While sitting in a car, taking a walk or even brushing their teeth. A mobile is what stays with EVERYONE at all times. Desktop usage is not dead (YET) but, it is definitely much less than the mobile behemoth. Your strategies should focus a great deal on reaching your clients via their cellular lifelines.

VIDEOS ARE THE NEXT HOTTEST THING

Okay this might seem a little hypocritical coming from a writer but the best way to stand out in a pool of brilliant content is by a video. Our consumers are slowly turning into easily bored, erratic and constantly fluctuating personalities however, the desire for "neat resolutions" is never going to go away. So DIY videos, training videos (work out videos are not just popular because of the attractive trainers) or product advertisements are a great bet! Overall video watching, posting and creating has gone up. Going viral is the next big and/or best thing. On the current market visual stimulus works the best. SO incorporate this option in your manuals for 2015 my fellow marketers.

MARKETING ANALYTICS=COOL!

As Marketers we all love our flow charts, figures and other hieroglyphs. Its what makes us create, implement and sustain creative strategies. Marketing analytic tools are already part of our "handyman belt" but the usage is projected to rise in 2015, budgets for better tools will rise by 67% . What more? the use of automation technology for marketing will increase by 50%. DATA is also king, okay maybe that's unfair to content, let's call DATA the queen. The implementation of consumer info has become more important for creating strategies. Whether you are old school or prefer to use advance software to create the necessary graphs and charts. gathering information is part of the 2015 gig. Detailed and massive, analytic software is your best bet to make sense of THAT much data. Example? Do you know what Wallmart markets to new parents? Its not baby food, its not diapers either.

A-L-C-O-H-O-L

Why ? Because they KNOW that statistically, with a new born at hand people will go out less for drinks and are more likely to shop for their alcohol or order it.

Now THAT's marketing power.
