Ropes and rails during a parade/concert?

his afternoon I was in the Firehouse during the parade. Right in front of there is a reserved section (for whom I don't know anymore, used to be for the Grand Marshals when the parade ran in the other direction) marked off with ropes. This woman was in the section and during the parade decided the duck the rope between her and the parade for a picture or something equally unimportant. Naturally I tell her she has to get back on the other side of the rope as she's in the parade route. She gets mad and starts telling me she spent X amount of money and something about there being people in the section there shouldn't be. Who is in the section isn't my worry, that's PAC's job. My job is to sell stuff and keep guests safe (which is the #1 job of all CMs).

I tried to tell her it was for her own safety but she wouldn't listen. A GR CM who was in the shop by the front doors and saw what happened stepped forward so I walked away and let her handle the guest. I don't give a damn how much someone spent, I'm not going to let them risk getting run over by a multi-ton parade float. I wanted to tell the guest something along the lines of "and it would be a shame to spend so much money and have your vacation ruined because you got ran over by a float". AFAIK no guest has ever been struck by a parade float and I don't want it to ever happen.

On my way out tonight I ran into a Photopass CM I know. He told me he had been shooting by the Rose Garden a little earlier and apparently a lot of guests jumped the railing and crowded into the Rose Garden. He said no manager or coordinator came by the area for 45 minutes and he couldn't leave to call security or anybody. Finally a Main Street Ops CM came and cleared the garden out, right in the middle of fireworks. The Photopass CM said the rose bushes got trampled. He said he's never seen that happen in his 4 years at Disney, not even on the 4th of July or other holidays. I feel sorry for the horticulture CMs who are now going to have to repair the damage to the rose bushes caused by SGs who don't understand that there's a railing there for a reason.

So do you think special safety ropes are necessary? Do you agree with me?

I understand the problem described in your post, because I have experience with this type of people, who brokes all the rules. I arrange the concerts in England and it is very important to organize really good stage to expect all the accident because of people who wants to get on the stage. I am so lucky that I have found where we can order outdoor mobile stage equipment for all types of music festivals. If you are interested, on their website all the info is the very structured, try to research it.
