Have you hired a freelancer? What was it like? What are the usual things you look for when hiring a freelancer?

Hiring freelancers is the most toughest job in the world. I haven't hire anyone yet but having difficulties to maintain my co-workers. So I can guess how difficult is to hire a freelancer.

I think before hiring any freelancer you should check his portfolio, read client reviews and most important thing is to check him with a sample work.

Before Hiring ALWAYS chat with the candidate, there is no other way to find out whether your potential writer can actually write or not. Do trial periods as well, it a great way to find out if the freelancer is a committed worker and can meet deadlines. Also, (THIS is DEFINITELY going to come across as sexist) I myself prefer hiring females (Especially if I am hiring from a non-native region) they tend to be more reliable and (sometimes) write better too! Before the boys take out the pitchforks and start the pyre, let me just say, I am speaking ONLY from personal experience! If anyone has had a different experience, please, do share!

YES! I can say that women are more reliable than men. Based on my experience. I never hired anyone but I am a freelancer and I have some guy friends that are freelancers too! They lose their job on less than a month. They never run out of excuses. LOL! But not all men are the same. There are some that are reliable and a better writer!
